Fackts about the municipality of Andebu

•Andebu is situated in the heart of the county of Vestfold

•Driving to Tønsberg and Sandefjord takes about a quarter of an hour

•The only stave church in Vestfold is in Andebu

•About 5200 inhabitants

•Consist of three parishes:  Andebu, Høyjord and Kodal.  In each parish you can find  housing areas, schools, kindergartens and church

•In the centre of Andebu there is also several public services, bank, petrol stations, shops for food and clothing, fitnessenter, swimmingpool, healthcare, dentists, hairdressers, library, scateboard ramp, sports.

A rich history of culture
Different objects from the Viking Age, Iron Age and the Bronze Age have been found in the three parishes and the county museum in Tønsberg have different old buildings from the municipality.

The oldes church book in Norway
Andebu has the oldest preserved church book in the country.  It was written in 1623.  The real one is kept in Oslo, but a copy can be seen at the library in Andebu.

Lorens Berg
He has written a lot of books about the different parishes and there is a statue of him in Kodal.

Churches
Every parish has its own church.  The beautiful stave church is situated in Høyjord while Kodal ande Andebu have churches from the Middle Age.

Høyjord Stave Church
The oldest part is from the 12th century.  For tour in the church it is open in July - groups can make appointment with the sexton 33 44 22 30.

The schoolmuseum of Gulli
You find this museum 3 kilometres south of the centre of Andebu.  It was used as a school between 1892 and 1958, and today there are maps, desks and other schoolmaterial in the house.  You can make appointment to se she museum if you call 33 43 81 00.

Outdoor life
In Andebu you find mountain ridges, valleys, rivers and small lakes. Bathing and fishing is very popular.  During the summer you can go on walking tours in the forests while going skiing is very popular in the winter.

If you want to try your luck in fishing you need a fishing licence, and in some of our lakes you can fish both salmon and trout.

Stålerødvannet
Sunny grass and sand beach. Bathing jetty and diving board and a toilet for disabled.  Large parking space. Located on Highway 307 in western Andebu.

Askjemvannet
Large sunny grass and sand beach.Bathing jetty and toilets for disabled. Parking at the boom about 700 m from the beach. Running from Highway 305 at Kjærås Andebu south of the city center.

Kleivern
Grassland with sandy beach and swimming pier with diving board. Sun in the afternoon. Toilet for disabled. Parking at the beach. Located on Highway 306 in Høyjord.

Vestby - the house in the forest
The municipality owns a property in the western part of Andebu.  It is possible to hire it for private arrangements.

The russian camp
During the second world war Russion soldiers were kept as prisoners in the camp at Lakskjønn.  The old guardtower has been rebuilt and here you find informastion and photos in the tower.

Go-kart
The only track for go-kart in Vestfold is situated in Andebu.  From May to September it is possible to hire a go-kart.  More information www.nafgokartvestfold.no.
